For example, homosexuality was listed as a psychological illness for many years in the official catalog of mental disorders maintained by the American Psychiatric Association.
One official catalog of mental disorders is the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, or DSM, which is written and maintained by the American Psychiatric Association. The other main catalogue, the International Statistical Classification of Disease and Related Health Problems, or ICD, is written and maintained by the World Health organization; the current version is the ICD-11. Homosexuality was removed from the DSM in 1987 and the ICD-10 in 1990.
